At POON Productions we create eclectic dance driven musicals with lush exotic music and set them in night clubs, theaters and warehouses all over NYC. As a universal celebration of human sensuality, our shows seduce the audience into immediate connection with the performance, stimulating all of the senses as it pulls the spectator from the mundane world into one of exalted revery and passion. The mission of each individual show is to create a unique world where primal rhythm and divine beauty are merged through movement and music, exposing the many different cultures living right next door. We create a high energy, sensual yet elegant atmosphere in order to inspire, uplift and connect every audience to themselves and to the others. All shows are conceived and choreographed by Jordana Che Toback and all Music is by Tom Rossi.
POON productions currently offers three sexy urban dance shows with original music by Tom Rossi;
All of our shows have an element of audience participation, and all shows are staged within and throughout the venue. Each site specific performance spectacle is comprised of an amalgamation of dance and musical styles from around the world. Each style is chosen because of it's inherent power to entice, mystify, dazzle and inspire. Alternately tapping into the raw energy of a rock band, the dazzle of "Dancing With The Stars", the rowdy exaltation of a Can Can, and the coyness of a strip club seduction, POON's supremely theatrical approach has something for everyone. Utilizing a provocative brew of elaborate, multi-dimensional costume design, erotic imagery and subversive choreography, the shows are bound together by a drum driven, live world orchestra, which elegantly fuses contemporary Electronica and Rock with the ancient and earthy sounds of Africa, Cuba, India, the Middle East and beyond, depending on the show. POON recently premiered TERRE at Cielo in NYC, August 25th 2009 to a screaming, sold out audience! Check back soon for Fall show dates as they are currently in the making. In the future, keep your eye out for "DANCIN' DAYS," a sexy, raucous trip down memory lane with cowgirls, go go, and the sensual delirium of rock in the early 70's set to a Led Zeppelin score. Toback is also writing an "As-of-yet-untitled-Zeigfield-Follies-style-floor-show" featuring flappers and showgirls tapping and flapping their way through this Busby Berkeley style spectacle. The Untitled Follies Floor Show will be accompanied by a live 1920's orchestra whose traditional score is blended with jazz age remixes by Tom Rossi for the new millennium. In addition, Toback and her band of classically trained POONtastic dancers currently perform at a variety of events and private functions, most recently shaking their way across Brooklyn's Pier 5 for Mayor Bloomberg and many of the city's political elite.
